Our good friend and colleague Douglas Karr posted 6 Ways to Resurrect Old Content this week, and it got me thinking, “You know, most of his points apply to video too!” So, I thought I’d take a cue from The Marketing Tech Blog and give you five ways to resurrect old video.
1.) Through a new video – just how Doug mentioned referring to old posts in your new posts, why not refer or even link viewers to a relevant old video in a new video? They may appreciate a “refresh” or may not have ever seen it at all. We did it at the end of this episode of our reality series, Media for Hire.
2.) Through search engines – let’s say you’re using YouTube to host your videos, why not change up the title, description and/or keywords a bit to freshen things up? The video will most likely be ranked higher than before, especially if you’ve updated to include more relevant keywords.
3.) Through Twitter – Okay, I’ll admit it… I don’t always read every tweet that comes through my feed (phew, glad I got that off my chest). I bet there are a LOT of folks out there who may not have seen your original tweet(s) sharing the link to your video. Tweet it again, but follow Doug’s advice -
“Announce it again (but let followers know it was a retweet), by stating… “This was my most popular post last month on [insert subject]. If folks hadn’t read it, they may now!”
4.) Through Facebook – There’s a good chance you and/or your facebook page has increased its online footprint recently. Why not share a great video again for your new facebook friends to see? It’s easy to do from the video page on YouTube or from your blog post (because you did use the video in a blog post right?)
5.) Through your Blog - Okay, so maybe you didn’t use the video in a blog post. Well, you certainly should. Give a little more info, extra tips, or a behind the scenes on your blog and embed the video right in the post. We do this with many of our corporate video client projects and our Media for Hire episodes.
So, if you’ve created some great video content and it’s gotten a little dusty, just bring it back out again in one of these ways. If you created some not-so-great video content, why not hire 12 Stars Media to help you out with that?
It is harder to get comments and use YouTube as a social network but I know some people who swear that it can be leveraged as such. Im not completely sold on that front but sold on the search aspect of it.
